“Is home a physical place, a memory, or something I build as I move?” This timeless question continues to resonate deeply across the Adriatic-Ionian region—a place where identity, aspirations, and the feeling of belonging often intersect in complex ways. Now, young artists from this macro-region are offering fresh interpretations and creative responses through a unique nomadic exhibition titled "Living Without Leaving". This art showcase, focusing on themes of migration, identity, and belonging, debuted on Monday, May 5th, in Georgioupolis, Crete, as part of the 10th EUSAIR Forum’s side events.
Launched in February 2025, the art initiative "Living Without Leaving? The Perspective of Adriatic-Ionian Young Artists" was spearheaded by the European Commission in collaboration with the University of Ioannina’s Faculty of Fine Arts. The project aims to support the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region by promoting fundamental values such as inclusion, cooperation, and mutual support.
From over 60 entries submitted, 15 standout artworks were chosen, representing the voices of young creators from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Serbia. Each piece presents a deeply personal exploration of youth migration and the sense of connection to place.
After its launch at the EUSAIR Forum, the selected artworks will be showcased throughout 2025 in a traveling exhibition that will stop in Belgium, Greece, Albania, and North Macedonia—allowing audiences from different regions to engage with these thought-provoking artistic expressions.
