As part of the EUSAIR Pillar 2 (Transport and Energy) initiative and following up on the first online workshop held on June 27, 2025, the conference titled “Green Ports and the Skills of Tomorrow: Enhancing Port Competences and Key Success Factors for a Sustainable Maritime Transition” will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM.
This event is promoted by the Central European Initiative and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, with support from the Coordinator of Pillar II – Transport – of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region. It forms part of the wider Green Ports initiative.
Amid evolving environmental regulations, digital transformation, and decarbonization efforts, the role of human capital is becoming increasingly crucial for securing the maritime sector’s long-term sustainability. Consequently, this workshop seeks to examine the necessary skills and training approaches to facilitate the green transition of port systems in the Adriatic-Ionian region.
The workshop’s specific objectives include:
- Identifying the most sought-after green skills and professional roles within the port industry;
- Reviewing EU-level projections and regional trends in green employment;
- Showcasing successful training programs, curricula, and institutional collaborations;
- Encouraging cross-sector dialogue and co-creating a shared skills alignment story map;
- Supporting the creation of a roadmap for a comprehensive skills strategy across the Adriatic-Ionian port cluster.
Participants will include representatives from ports, vocational training centers, universities, and European institutions.
A full agenda with the list of speakers will be released shortly.
