Executive Committee of Alpine–Western Balkans and Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean Rail Corridor Convened by CEI

On 21 April 2026, the Central European Initiative (CEI) hosted a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Alpine–Western Balkans and Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean Rail Freight Corridors at its headquarters in Trieste.

The meeting brought together EU Coordinator Marian-Jean Marinescu along with representatives of the European Commission. Chaired by Vlasta Kampos Jerenec from Slovenia’s Ministry of Infrastructure, the event represented an important step forward, particularly following the corridor’s extension to Trieste and the strengthening of its position as a key hub for both regional and European connectivity.

Participants highlighted the importance of continued cooperation in tackling transport-related challenges, reaffirming the CEI’s role as a platform for dialogue and regional collaboration. Looking to the future, the CEI intends to further support initiatives connected to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), along both east–west and north–south routes, with the aim of boosting regional integration.
